Stores Opened in All 47 Prefectures of Japan

Since entering the eyewear business in 2001 with the opening of its first store in Tenjin, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture, JINS has continued to open stores across Japan to deliver JINS products nationwide. With the opening of our first store in Saga Prefecture in 2021, JINS products and services are now available in all prefectures across Japan. We will continue to contribute to local communities through our business activities.

Activities by Community Symbiosis Business Department

JINS has positioned contributing to local communities as an important aspect of sustainability. We have incorporated “holding ongoing community coexistence activities through our stores" as one of our goals for the milestone year of 2030, and in terms of our organization, JINS Japan has established the “Community Symbiosis Business Department.”
Activities carried out by the “Community Symbiosis Business Department” include supporting a new form of farming management in Gunma Prefecture, where JINS was founded, by bringing together people in teams to carry out farm work (JINS norma) regardless of whether they have a disability or not, operating a mobile eyewear van (JINS GO) to provide JINS products and services to customers unable to visit our stores, such as elderly customers and customers with health issues, and operating combined coffee shops and roasteries (ONCA Coffee) as part of a project aiming for the circulation of people and food in local areas. Through these activities, we aim to tackle the challenges faced by communities as a private company while growing together alongside society.

Design of Fixtures, Interiors, and Promotional Materials by Local Artists and Architects

JINS actively commissions design projects to local artists and architects to complement the region where a store is located. For example, JINS Hiroshima Hondori, a large-scale store in the Chugoku region, was designed by Hiroshima-born architect Masafumi Shimatani based on the imagery of the Inland Sea of Seto. The store is easy to navigate for people with children and also serves as a communication space for local people.

Stores That Coexist with Local Communities

JINS PARK is a facility aiming to become a hub for local communities. It was opened in April 2021 in Maebashi, Gunma Prefecture, where JINS was founded.
JINS PARK was designed by architect Yuko Nagayama. The eyewear brand JINS is located inside the facility together with the bakery and café Everypan, which has been newly developed as a restaurant business.
With an outdoor plaza freely available for anyone to use, as well as large spaces inside the facility such as a large staircase and rooftop terrace, this new store format aims to achieve coexistence between JINS and the local community by creating a place for new interactions in the community. In future, we plan to use the outdoor plaza with wide lawn and other spaces for JINS-organized events, as well as renting out these spaces for local residents to hold workshops and events, thereby creating a place to create new interactions among local people and coexist with the community.

JINS AEON MALL Okazaki (Aichi Prefecture) aims not only to be a place to sell eyeglasses but also a space that creates a local community feel where customers can make new discoveries and connect with other people on every visit.
It was designed by architect Ryuji Nakamura based on the concept of an “unfinished place.” In a space shared by “eyeglasses, books, and a community space,” some 550 wooden boxes made of thinned wood grown in Okazaki and Mikawa can be transformed into product displays for eyeglasses, shelves for storing books, benches for customers to rest, and more.
There is also a library featuring a selection of about 1,500 books compiled by book director Yoshitaka Haba, offering local residents the joy of finding their favorite book and a chance to relax on top of eyeglasses.

JINS Maebashi Kojimata (Gunma Prefecture) was opened in January 2022 with the aim of being a pioneer in promoting sustainability; namely, being environmentally friendly and building new relationships with the local community. The store’s interior spaces were produced by artist Kenichi Obana, a native of Gunma Prefecture who has created works such as “Kaze Otoko” (‘wind man’), a sculpture inspired by the strong, dry winds of Gunma. Through the experience of viewing Obana’s pieces, such as the “Kaze Otoko” sculpture at the entrance and “Kaze Otoko” drawings on the store’s inner walls, we have created a space where local people can perceive the unique character of Maebashi.

Notable stores in recent years

JINS S-PULSE DREAM PLAZA (Shizuoka Prefecture) took advantage of the store‘s characteristic of having glass sashes in all three directions that face the aisles and painted illustrations all around its glass walls. These illustrations were created by a Shizuoka-born illustrator Naho Kuriyama, which humorously portrayed Shimizu, Shizuoka, with the theme of the city of wonders, Shizuoka.
This store also uses recycled marine plastic for its fixtures including table mirrors and leaflet cases. As a member of the city that faces the sea, we are working to protect the environment by effectively utilizing these materials for new uses.

JINS AEON MALL Kakamigahara (Gifu Prefecture) has been renovated. The store was designed by Yuri Naruse and Jun Inokuma from NARUSE INOKUMA ARCHITECTS, who work actively in various areas including Gifu Prefecture. In order to create a store that is friendly and endearing to both children and adults, Kakamigahara's topography was used as a motif. The fixtures are made by Gifu cypress timber from forest thinning, so customers can feel the warmth of wood.

The JINS Aeon Mall Ota (Gunma Prefecture) has been renovated with the aim of being a fun and friendly store that attracts anyone from adults to children, based on its concept of “building blocks.”
The walls of the store are filled with creative drawings painted by Kenichi Obana, a local artist from Ota City, with the theme of “talkative walls.” The idea is that customers can perceive something or get inspiration even during their waiting time, leading to a rich experience. The stories embedded in each depiction of an ordinary landscape create exciting times and lively atmosphere.
The store is intended to be a playful place where customers can get caught up in choosing their glasses, and even the time they wait for their glasses to be completed will be filled with excitement and fun.

Service to Visit Customers with a Mobile Eyewear Van “JINS GO”

To provide JINS products and services to those without easy access to a JINS store or those who are unable to visit our stores, such as elderly customers and customers with health issues, we began offering a service that involves visiting customers in a dedicated vehicle equipped with wheelchair lift and remodeled to provide all of JINS’ basic services, such as assistance with eye tests and lens processing, in January 2023. Following an emergency, the van can also be used to provide services in disaster-stricken areas and the like. In future, we will work to build new relationships with local communities, with our sights set on producing further vehicles and expanding the areas of coverage.
If you are from a facility, organization, or municipality and would like to organize a visit, please contact us via the form on the official “JINS GO” website.
