After identifying its material issues in 2021, JINS has been pursuing related initiatives. However, in light of significant changes in social conditions and the environment surrounding our business in recent years, we reviewed these key topics in 2024 while taking into account company strategy and other factors.
For each of the six identified issues, we have implemented a process of goal setting, progress management, evaluation, and improvement, and have been expanding sustainability activities across company departments and among employees.
Process for Identifying Material Issues
Material Issues Reviewing Flow
In reviewing the material issues, we carried out an examination in the following steps. We will continue to regularly review the material issues in response to changes in society and the business environment.
STEP1
Identifying Social Issues
We identified the overall picture of social issues that should be considered based on non-financial information disclosure guidelines, international goals, standards, principles, and guidelines on sustainability, ESG investment index evaluation items, and more. Moreover, we compared them with the social issues we considered when identifying our material issues in 2021, and selected social issues to be newly included from this perspective.
STEP2
Prioritizing and Categorizing Them as Material Issues
Interviews were conducted with business units to confirm the status of initiatives to address social issues and their consistency with future business strategies, and to assess their importance for JINS. We also evaluated their importance to our stakeholders in light of the impact on our business activities and expectations from society, and organized each of them in a materiality matrix. Finally, we organized particularly important social issues by related themes and sorted them into six material issues.
STEP3
Setting KPIs/Medium-Term Goals Linked to Each Issue
For each material issue, we set 2030 Goals by researching social trends and deliberating with business units, followed by a careful examination of activities to be worked on as a priority.
STEP4
Confirming Validity by Outside Experts
Through discussions with outside experts, we verified that the sorting of social issues in order of priority, material issues, and the details of the 2030 Goals were in line with social trends and environmental changes.
STEP5
Identifying as Our Material Issues with Approval from Management
The material issues and 2030 Goals were approved by the Sustainability Committee (December 21, 2022), at which the CEO was in attendance, and identified as new material issues.
Materiality Matrix
Materiality Matrix
JINS has analyzed important social issues for both itself and its stakeholders, identifying the most important issues from among them. And from these social issues, it has selected six material issues: consideration for the environment, human capital maximization and respect for human rights, dependable products and services, healthcare and innovation, social contribution, and sound governance.
